The acting president Yemi Osinbanjo has said he is going to sign the budget when he is satisfied with its content.
The spokesperson to the acting president, Laolu Akande on Wednesday in reaction reports of the minister of information Lai Muhammad who said the government was unsure of who will sign the budget, regarded His statement as “absolute rubbish”
The National Assembly last week, passed the Budget to the presidency.
However there have been a lot of controversies concerning who will sign the Budget into law. This is due to the content of the “medical follow-up” letter that named Osinbanjo a “Coordinator of the Affairs of the government” until the president returns.
In the letter, President Buhari invoked Section 145(1) of the Constitution, transferring full powers to Mr. Osinbajo, however the letter indicated that Mr Osinbanjo will only “coordinate” affairs of the government in his absence.
Mr. Buhari’s use of “coordinate” instead of “will perform duties of my office” or “act on my behalf” as previously used had unsettled the polity.
However the spokesperson to the acting president, Laolu Akande in a tweet on Wednesday had eased the uncertainty in the presidency
Mr Akande tweeted that;
“Just so we are clear: when the time comes, everything is set, and he is satisfied, Ag. President Yemi Osinbajo will assent to the 2017 Budget,”
