According to reports the confirmation hearing of the Acting EFCC Boss Magu, which was revealed by the deputy senate president, Ike Ekweremadu, to be held on Thursday has also been revealed not found in the list is of the Senates Business for the day.
However, whistle blowers are saying that the senate has no plans of confirming Magu, for the time being as there seems to be no serious plan of such.
In the absence of the hearing, the members of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, who have come to the senate complex in their numbers made their way out angrily so to say, as it was in the Wednesday, plenary by Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, that Magu’s Confirmation hearing would be on Thursday.
Reportedly the President had written to the senate since June this year seeking the confirmation of Magu, the substantive Chairman of the EFCC, the letter which was read by the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, a month later after it was sent the the chamber.
Meanwhile, Prof. Itse Sagay, (SAN), the Presidential Advisory Committee’s Chairman reportedly condemns to delay acts of the senate on the confirmation of Magu, saying:
“This will not stop the fight against corruption. An acting chairman is a chairman whose position has not been approved by the Senate but he is still the chairman. He has all the powers of the chairman. So, they can delay it but all it amounts to is a psychological war.
“As an acting chairman , if you are worried, it can affect you psychologically but this will have no effect on the anti-corruption war because it doesn’t stop his power.”
Magu, was appointed by Buhari as the acting chairman of the EFCC, after the removal of Ibrahim Lamorde on Nov. 9, 2015.
