As early as 7:00am last Thursday, the tribunal environment which is next door to the State High Court was surrounded by supporters of the APC and the PDP, singing and chanting solidarity songs at the commencement of the Edo State Election Tribunal set up to look into the petition that the PDP and its candidate, Pastor Osagie Andrew Ize-Iyamu, had submitted against the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC), over the declaration of Mr Godwin Obaseki of the All Progressive Congress, APC, as the winner of the governorship election which turn out to a serious aggressive show off. The arrival of the the Deputy Governor, Mr. Phillip Shaibu, gave rise to an unrestrained movement which only got worse at the arrival of the Governor-elect Mr Godwin Obaseki, who amidst shouts of party songs, walked straight into the courtroom.
While the discussions were on in the tribunal, a prominent states revenue collector’s alleged thugs, who are said to be answerable only to him, organized themselves into vilgilant groups that took over the screening of the people allowedor refused access into the court premises. However, the situation persisted until the departure of the Governor-elect.
A while afterward, chaos struck the area as the thugs descended on people who they believed to be supporters of the PDP, who were putting on the T-shirt belonging to the party.
The scene became a war zone as the situation left a lot of people injured. Reports also have that not lesser than 6 (six) people were soaked in their own blood after been giving a life beating despite the presence of the police force who could barely act other than trying to get the thugs to calm down since they are outnumbered seriously.
